Leonardo Sierra, DDS, is an experienced periodontist whose state-of-the-art dental practice in Cancun focuses exclusively on periodontics and implant dentistry. A highly skilled dental surgeon, Dr. Sierra is the founder of the Implantology Department at the National University of Mexico (UNAM) Dental School, Postgraduate Division, where he formerly served as a faculty member and chairman. He is also a former president of the Academy of Periodontics in Mexico City. Dr. Sierra has authored several scientific papers pertaining to periodontics and dental implantology and is a co-author of a book titled "Esthetic Basis for Osseointegrated Implant Rehabilitation." He is frequently invited to lecture on periodontics, implantology and cosmetic dentistry in Mexico, Chile, Panama, Ecuador and the United States. He has been honored by UNAM for 15 years of service, by the Mexican Dental Association for his efforts in educating others, and by Lifecore Biomedical, where he served as a scientific advisor.
Dr. Sierra specializes in periodontics and implants dentistry. Periodontics is a dental discipline focusing on the treatment of conditions that affect the supporting structures of teeth, including the gums, bone, cementum (calcified substance that covers the root of a tooth) and the periodontal ligaments (fibers). Dr. Sierra is skilled in performing a range of periodontal treatments, including mucogingival surgery, crown lengthening, gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, guided tissue regeneration (bone graft procedures) and treatment of halitosis (bad breath). He also performs dental implant surgery and has helped many patients restore their smiles through the placement of natural-looking dental prostheses. Dr. Sierra has been a dental implant provider since 1987.
