Dr. Julie Spaniel earned her dental degree from the University of North Carolina. She completed her residency at the VA Medical Center and group private practice in Portland. Dr. Spaniel owned and operated a large general dental practice in the Burlington area in Vermont for almost 27 years, where she provided gentle and personalized dental care for thousands of patients. Dr. Spaniel now leads Summerwood Family Dental, a family-oriented and patient-focused dental practice serving Tigard, Portland and the surrounding areas.

Dr. Spaniel has over 27 years of experience and combines her extraordinary expertise with a warm, compassionate demeanor, which has allowed her to obtain the trust of countless patients. Dr. Spaniel uses the most advanced dental technologies and methods to provide high-quality care. She stays abreast of the most cutting-edge technologies by regularly taking continuing education courses to stay abreast of the latest advances in the field. Dr. Spaniel is a board member of the American Association for Dental Practice Administration, the healthcare director for the non-profit organization Refugee Outreach Club, Inc., and works in the applicant review department for the Wells Foundation. She is an active member of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Oral Systemic Health. She has been a member of the AAOSH since its inception and employs the organization’s principles on the relationship between oral health and whole body health in her daily work. Dr. Spaniel belongs to a number of charitable and non-profit organizations, including Global Dental Relief and the student-led group Global Brigade, Inc. She has traveled to Honduras, Ghana, Nicaragua and Mexico, volunteering her services to help impoverished communities.
